Letter: Celebrate our ‘new’ library’s 10-year anniversary

Posted

October 2018 will mark the 10th year of the “new” Rogers Free Library. This incredible achievement was accomplished through a variety of means: state funding, Champlin Foundations support, private bequests, individual donations and anticipated grants coupled with promised grants, state library support, and bond money from the Town of Bristol, and resulted in a reinvented Rogers Free Library.

This was just over a $7 million project that ended up costing the citizens of Bristol less than $2 million in tax dollars. Our newly expanded library was opened on Oct. 19, 2008.

To commemorate the anniversary, the trustees and the Friends of the Rogers Free Library have earmarked Oct. 9 to 14 for special library activities. Each day, patrons and visitors can stop in to receive a thematic give-away that reflects a portion of the mission of the library.

A special historic display in our foyer will commemorate the library’s beginnings, rebirth following a devastating fire, and eventual remake 10 years ago. On Sunday, Oct. 14, the library will host a special reception from 2 to 3:30 p.m., featuring hors d’oeuvres and beverages.  On that day we will announce the new Community Volunteer Program, and share other developments that have evolved from our recently completed strategic plan.

The public is invited to join in on the fun. Please stop by and celebrate 10 years.

Betty Brito

Ms. Brito is chairwoman of the trustees of Rogers Free Library.
