To the editor:
Thanks to the hard work of the Tiverton School Committee, Finance Director Doug Fiore, as well as the cooperation of our bus contractor and regional special education director, the Tiverton School District will offer full-day kindergarten beginning with the 2015-2016 school year.
I am thrilled that our youngest students will be afforded the same educational opportunities that other students of this age receive. Presently 70 percent of the school departments across the state of Rhode Island offer full-day kindergarten to their students. I am very thankful to the School Committee members who all advocated on its behalf.
Numerous national studies have demonstrated that students who participate in full-day kindergarten will experience greater academic success than students enrolled in half-day programs. The School Committee and district administration/staff believe the implementation of full-day kindergarten is a major and long-needed addition to Tiverton public school programming.
To register for kindergarten, children must be 5 years old by September 1 and parents must bring proof of birth and an immunization records.  For additional information please visit the Tiverton School Department’s website Tivertonschools.org or contact the Central Office at 624-8475.
I ask residents to spread this good news to their family and friends
William Rearick,
Superintendent Tiverton Public Schools
