Letter: History tells us Sanders’ agenda can be achieved

To the editor:

When it comes to the list of reasons being desperately thrown out to slow the wave of support building for Bernie Sanders, there is one that seems to be convincing enough to catch on. It goes like this; Bernie Sanders agenda is so radical that it stands absolutely no chance of ever being enacted. The hell that president Obama has gone through would be a walk in the park compared with the reception an avowed socialist, for crying out loud, would receive from the party of "No.” The only reasonable choice is to proceed in steady, measured steps rather than wild leaps. First, keep the White House, then work toward more seats in Congress and a chance for real progress. Seems like a closed case, right?

The first part of this argument is foolish. What Bernie Sanders is proposing is not only possible, but it's already been done once not all that long ago. FDR fought both Republicans and the conservative Southern Democrats to make the New Deal happen.

He got his way by using the power a real president has when he's representing the American people. He did it by telling Wall Street, "I am here to save you from the guillotine, it's in your best interest to cooperate with me." He told those in Congress who stood in his way, "The people of America are behind me, cross them at your own peril." It's as simple as that. He explained what he was doing and why to the American people every step of the way in his "Fireside Chats" and enjoyed the near universal support of a working class that had grown tired of excuses and fear. He was so popular that it took death itself to remove him from his fourth term in the White House. It's pretty foolish to say that it's impossible to do what's already been done, wouldn't you agree?

The second part is just ridiculous. While my dogs can figure out that I'm only pretending to throw the ball after being made a fool of two or three times, there are scads of humans who plainly can't do the same with a fully formed human brain. If you are of the opinion that the wife of the democrat president who repealed the Glass-Stegal act and signed NAFTA into law is the best choice to follow the democrat president who has allowed the banks to get almost twice as too big to fail and only needs the final draft of the trade agreement that's been called, "NAFTA on steroids" to hit his desk to be signed into law, you may not thinking right. If hearing the democrat leaders and liberal pundits across the board trashing the ideology of the greatest democratic president in United States history doesn't set off alarm bells in your head, maybe you're just confused. But not seeing the simple truth being pointed out at the end of your nose by someone speaking as if you're an intelligent adult is just plain ridiculous.

In a well deserved Karmic beat down, the two political wings of the oligarchy have finally been tripped up by their own shameless act. They are crumbling in mirror image of one another. One that's proven to be a stumbling, empty suit in the face of someone who speaks aloud their worst, ugliest ideas and one that's done the same when someone articulated their best and highest.
