Letter: Legislative support expands community center capabilities

To the editor:

On behalf of the Friends of the Bay Spring Community Center, I want to extend our thanks to State Senator Cindy Coyne for her support for a recently awarded legislative grant to the Bay Spring Community Center.

The grant made it possible for the Friends of the Bay Spring Community Center to purchase a new high-definition projector, expanding the center’s ability to host an expanded slate of presentations, multimedia activities, movies, and more.

Over the past year, the efforts of Sen. Coyne, our many members and volunteers, the Town of Barrington, local businesses, and the RI Foundation, have helped the center to produce an array of new programs, create a new outdoor performance space, and continue strengthen the Bay Spring Community Center's role as a community resource.

Thank you, Sen. Coyne, and all who have supported this vital center for arts, music, culture, and community affairs in Barrington.

Chris Watson

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
