The position of legislator is an important one that will be decided for district 11 on Tuesday, December1.
The legislators craft state law. They need to be grounded in local, regional, and state issues. This requires integrity, diligence, and an ability to see from many perspectives--both short and long term.
I have known Brett Pelletier since his first run for council in Tiverton, an East Bay Community linked to Portsmouth and Bristol by water. I have watched him grow and amass a huge amount of knowledge in many and varied areas from Economic Development and Harbor Commission to education and taxes. Throughout, an understanding of costs and assessment have been essential.
His background in finance and housing and experience at the local level with issues like the Sakonnet Bridge Tolls, and the Stone Bridge abutment have increasingly had regional impacts.
And he listens. Not just to supporters, but to all concerns. This is particularly important for a state legislator, who must answer to a broad voter base.
There is more information on his website and an opportunity to hear all the candidates speak in the televised forum sponsored by the Newport Daily News which is available online and on local cable channels.
Please vote to send Brett Pelletier to Senate representing District 11, this Tuesday.
