Letter: Relationship between council and clerk is vitally important

Posted

Having served 14 years on the town council I certainly am aware of the unique relationship between the council and the town clerk who acts as its secretary and is based on mutual respect and a complete understanding of each other’s roles.

In working with both Diane Mederos and her successor Lou Cirillo, I cannot think of any situation that would have warranted the clerk publicly challenging the policy of the town council. And if one did present itself, the logical remedy would have been an amiable discussion so that everyone’s points, roles and responsibilities were heard, clear and understood.

To do otherwise would drive a wedge in this important, vital relationship and flies in the face of the very foundation of our town government.

He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
