Letter: Senator Felag fights for those who fought for America

To the editor:

I recently read Senator Walter Felag's proposed legislation, 2016-S 2149, in the Bristol Phoenix that would exempt military pensions from the state income tax and felt compelled as a Viet Nam veteran to write this letter. I commend Senator Felag, who represents Bristol, Warren and Tiverton, for this thoughtful and much needed change in law. Over the years, he has proposed various variations of this bill to implement part or all of this exemption.

Senator Felag has been a tireless advocate for our veteran population every single year that he has been in office, and thus piece of legislation is no different. Consistently, year in and year out, he has demonstrated willingness and drive to acknowledge and compensate the sacrifices our veteran men and women have made over their lives in the service of freedom and democracy.

Whether it was the Senate "The Rhode Back Home" policy package from ma few years ago, to his bill last year eliminating housing discrimination for veterans, to this year's income tax exemption on military pensions, he has never turned his back on the state's veterans.

Thank you, Senator Felag! Thank you for always fighting for us as we have always fought for you.
