Letter: Seveney has passion for serving constituents

To the editor:

I write in support of Jim Seveney for the Senate District 11 seat, which we will decide on Jan. 5.

I have known Jim for several years, first meeting him when he served on the Portsmouth School Committee. Throughout his years of service on the School Committee and Town Council, Jim has worked tirelessly for the citizens of Portsmouth. He has been steadfast in his support of quality schools in Portsmouth, transparent and responsible government, and a supporter of initiatives that improve the climate for small businesses.

While people can disagree on issues, I think we all can agree that Mr. Seveney has a passion for serving his constituents and ensuring government fulfills its role and obligations to the people it serves.

As retired naval officer and a retired business director in the defense industry, Jim would bring extensive experience and leadership to the Senate. Mr. Seveney’s educational credentials (BA from Rhode Island College, an MS from Naval Postgraduate School, and an MBA from Salve Regina University) combined with his years of experience in government at the local level, make him well prepared to address the pressing issues at the state level.

If elected, you can count on Jim fighting every day to make Rhode Island a better place to do business, and a better place to live and raise a family. That is what Sen. Ottiano did for us every day, and certainly his successor will have big shoes to fill.

I am convinced that Jim Seveney will continue the good work of Sen. Ottiano, and bring a fresh perspective to the General Assembly. Vote for Jim Seveney on Jan. 5!
