Letter: Thanks for making Portsmouth Softball a success

To the editor:

As vice president of Portsmouth Softball (Little League), I am overwhelmed with the involvement and support within our Portsmouth community this past year, especially. It is with great gratitude that I extend a whole hearted thanks for all of the help with improving our lower Glen Davidson softball field with special thanks to:

• John Cawley, for always taking the time to discuss my ideas and his constant support with the softball field improvements that kept the project moving forward.

• Our town council, especially President Mr. Keith Hamilton, and Town Administrator Mr. Rich Rainer for the additional funding. Executing the material in the outfield wouldn’t have been possible without Department of Public Works Director Mr. Dave Kehew and Deputy Director Mr. Brian Woodhead for their valuable involvement.

• Dean Pendergast and East Coast Construction, whose total involvement is why our softball field looks as beautiful as it does.

• Jamie Cawley for relocating and uprighting the scoreboard and Griff Electric for restoring the power.

• Ray Colicci, for everything field-related including the installation of our new softball batting cage and then some.

• Scott Wilson for his involvement with support from Salve Softball for the winter clinic program.

• Little league administrator Mr. Bob Walker for his continued encouragement and support with keeping our program strong and reminding us it’s always about the kids.

• Mr. John Hamilton for mentioning leaving things a bit better than the shape they were in when you got there.

Portsmouth is a very fortunate and lucky community, thanks to all our managers, coaches, skill position coaches — especially pitching coach Laurie Spaner — as well as our snack shack helpers for a wonderful softball season.

Lastly, to all our softball gals who are a wonderful group of athletes and friends to each other both on the field and off. Every year gets better and better!

Enjoy the rest of your summer!
