Letter: Thanks to all for attending St. Barnabas Parish Festival

To the editor:

Forty-two years ago, Bill Mathias and others wanted to instill a sense of community spirit and fun for the members of St. Barnabas Parish. Little did he know it would grow into one of the biggest and best marquee events for the town.

A deep and heartfelt thank-you to all who attended the festival this year. As you witnessed, there truly is a great sense of community, not just within the parish, but throughout Portsmouth and beyond. Thank you for your fellowship, spending some time with us and your generosity.

Secondly, thanks to the church staff, festival committee and volunteers. The festival operated as smoothly and seamlessly as humanly possible. To successfully feed and entertain hundreds of people throughout the weekend is no small feat.

Thank you to the neighbors who live around St. Barnabas for enduring the noise, traffic and inconvenience over the weekend.

Next, thanks to Rockwell Entertainment for providing rides and attractions for the younger generations, and to the bands: Java Jive, Cindy Lou and the Double E’s and Barfly. We received numerous requests to have you all back next year. Also, thanks to Newport Martial Arts, Animal Instincts of Fall River and the Jeep Club.

A special thank-you to all the donors and vendors who supplied the auction items, food and supplies. Your generosity is unparalleled. The festival committee wanted us to make sure you know the depths of their thankfulness.

Thank you all again for attending, volunteering and supporting. It was a great weekend. And we are already looking forward to next year.
