To the editor:
I am a person who attempts to believe in subjects primarily based upon factual information, so when I read or hear someone expound upon subjects is if the information related to that subject is factual, but isn’t, it bothers me.
The subject I am referring to is global warming spurred on by mankind’s negligence.
The begin with, I along with many others do believe global warming is a reality, but no definite proof has been brought forth establishing that global warming has been spurred on by fossil fuel burning or that high water levels are a harbinger of things to come.
I grew up directly on the waterfront on the lower end of Highland Road abutting the so-called “Gut.” In the 1940s, when I was not even a teenager, we spent many hours helping or even bothering my grandfather or scallop cutters there on the waterfront. Year after year, scallops were plentiful and cut scallop sales were great during the months of September, October and sometimes into November.
As with any kid’s pastime, we thought up games to play or oddities to view. One of those was setting a mark where the next highest tide would reach. Usually the tide’s highest mark was set during the moon’s position with respect to the earth. Year after year, we monitored and marked those high water levels. Occasionally, high water levels, possibly due to an offshore storm, would rise so high as to flood the lower end of Highland Road.
During the most recent period of high water levels, brought on by the moon in “apogee” and its eclipse alignment, I daily monitored those high water levels and compared them to those we set as children, only to verify those effects of global warming.
I believed, according to hoaxster Al Gore, that water levels were beginning to rise. I see no proof here in Tiverton on lower Highland Road. Now I and many knowledgeable climatologists do believe global warming is naturally cyclic over a period of many hundreds of years, with harmonic highs and lows during those periods. There exists more factual proof that the last global high temperature period was in the 1400s when there were no smokestacks. No definite proof can be established by any climatologist, at this time in history, verifying the exact century the global warming cycle will nodal out.
It is my intention to highlight this subject non-politically and to continue gathering factual data, not that brought forth in the past by hoaxsters such as Al Gore, who sapped Americans for over $2 billion, and climatologists who fudged their “hockey stick” predictions.
Don’t get me wrong over my feelings related to pollution — I thoroughly believe in cleaning up all over the world —but I believe it should be accomplished by phasing out over a longer period so that the implementation dos not affect the livelihood of those involved in the fossil fuel burning process.
