Letter: Veterans truly appreciate students’ recognition

To the editor:

I would like to express my thanks as a veteran of the USA to the Wilbur McMahon School and to Principal Joao Arruda for the exceptional program which he and his staff and students put on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

I along with many many veterans who attended were impressed by the program, the chorus and band selections and the students of the Portsmouth High School Band and the Wilbur McMahon School.  As it was the birthday of the US Marine Corp that day, the entire school wished the US Marines and veterans a happy birthday along with the different classes singing the individual songs from each of the five military services.

Along with many who attended the event, we are proud of our children and grandchildren for participating and putting on this Veterans Day program for all of us. I did feel very proud that I am a veteran of the US Navy and that I was able to serve our great country to help us all enjoy the freedoms which we all enjoy now.

Events like this show our children what Americans do to preserve our freedoms and that they do remember and honor all that have served in our US military over all the years.

I look forward to attending many more events with my fellow veterans at our community school.

Well done and thanks you all
