Letter: Vineyard grateful for voters’ support

To the editor:

Dear friends, neighbors and fellow farmers,

Last nights Town Meeting was the culmination of months and months of work.  My family and I have learned a lot about how our community governs, the need for citizens to stay informed on issues that our town is dealing with and the depth of our friends and neighbors' commitment to Westport's farmers.

We are grateful for all of your support, your advice, your words of encouragement and for your respect for our agricultural community.

Article 38 was passed with a "clear 2/3 majority"  bringing Westport's commitment as a Right to Farm Community into the 21st century.

While you may not notice the impact of this as you move through your day to day, Article 38 empowers our town officials with the guidance and structural framework they need to make sound decisions and to support innovation and growth in our dynamic farming community.

With our deepest gratitude,

Bob, Carol, Rob and Bill Russell

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
