Letter: Vote no on town question 6

To the editor:

We as residents and municipal workers are asking residents to vote no on town question 6 on Nov. 6, on the issue of charter change.

The reason why the charter is written the way it is, it's for checks and balances in the municipal budget so that residents can see where their money is being spent. If removed, the town manager is not required to justify or show how the money was spent. He will be able to assign and spend at will, by taking municipal funds (labor and materials) and use it in the school department without having to have permission or justify why to no one.

What's puzzling here is, we never had an issue before, working on projects in the schools when done the right way.

The public works department has always helped the town or school department in times of need, and there is history of collaborating and doing things efficiently with us, unknown to others without experience here.

The only thing that has changed here is the people or person in charge that wants full authority without checks and balances on his side. Once again, we urge all residents voting on Nov. 6, to keep your checks and balances in the budget. Protect your municipal budget and vote no on town question 6.
