Letter: Well-deserved parade salute for Tiverton's first charter committee

To the editor:

I would like to start this letter by thanking Paul's Florist of Tiverton for the beautiful corsages and boutonnieres. Was not expected but was truly appreciated.

Also thanks to the Celebrate Tiverton Committee for remembering and naming the members of the first charter commission as honorees for the 2017 parade . Special kudos to vice chairwoman of the school committee, Sally Black, for finding all the members of the 1994 committee in time to be recognized. They are:

Frank Marshall, chairman

James Amarantes, vice chairman

John Staskiewicz  secretary

Linda Michel, publicity coordinator

Diane Harris, treasurer

Jeff Lynch

Richard Taylor

We were all at the parade except Will who moved out of town. It was an elected committee who started with a blank sheet of paper and developed our first home rule charter 23 years ago. Handed to the Town Council in April 1994 and approved by the voters in the Nov election, there were a few amendments throughout the years.

This year, 2017, town voters elected nine charter members to review and make changes; after 23 years there need to be changes, hopefully to improve our beautiful town.

The 1994 charter members were a great asset to the town and worked hard and had a great year working together.

Just wanted to clarify a few questions as to why we were picked to be honorees and give some credit to my fellow charter commission members . It was a great experience working with you, and nice seeing you all again Saturday.                                                 Claudia Linhares
