Letter: When will veterans’ home dirt mountain go away?

Posted

I have been waiting patiently for the area where the former veterans home stood to be completed. A call to the home asking when the area would be finished was answered with, “I don’t know.”

Upon asking the gentleman who was locking the gate at the far end of the property, he stated they had to wait until Aug.15 to do the planting/landscaping.

It is now Sept. 1, and it’s still a pile of dirt; which wouldn’t be a problem except that with every rain storm and/or windy day there is a cloud of dust visible throughout the neighborhood on Annawamscutt, Charlotte, Monterey to name a few.

It seems reasonable that there could/should be some type of process to keep the dust down. I do recall seeing a dust control truck months ago but none since.

One may find this situation trivial, however try living with your windows closed all summer and still fine dust/dirt finds it way into every crack and crevice. The front of houses are dirt ridden, and windows need constant cleaning.

Please note that I have supported the construction of the new veterans home, and this letter is no reflection on the great men and woman who served our country. This has to do with construction management. It is difficult to believe that the dust storms do not affect the buildings adjacent to this far end of the property.

Should there be further delay in completing landscaping, I would ask that dust/dirt/water runoff be a priority for the wellbeing of residents, both in the neighborhood and on the grounds of the home.
