Letter: Writer's passion was understandable, justified

To the editor:

I have been looking forward to the ongoing weekly opinion column and specifically the discussion on state legislation currently being heard regarding abortion. The lengthy analysis by Mr. Smuk of the previous week's piece was quite educational. I felt he was teaching us the rules of civil discourse without committing himself in any real way to the discussion.

Maybe it is helpful to have an acting moderator not expressing an opinion on the topic.

Mrs. Haynes' passion was palpable, and in my humble opinion understandable and justified, given the life and death nature of this legislation. Honestly, between the two of us, (Ms. Haynes and I) she has much more at stake with the outcome of this legislation then I do.

Legislation making lifesaving surgery to my testicles illegal would probably make me want to throw some haymakers.

I am glad to hear moderate voices on this topic as they do offer balance.

For what it’s worth, I publicly commit my support to this legislation. To not do so feels archaic, misogynistic, and weird. I guess some men feel health care options to women should be regulated… by men?!
