Little Compton Scenic Winter Road Race is Jan. 9

It’s time to start training for the Little Compton Education (LCEF) Scenic Winter Road Race coming up on Saturday, Jan. 9, 2016, at 10 a.m.

Tis annual 4.8 mile road race will start and end in front of the Wilbur McMahon School in Little Compton.  All proceeds from the race will benefit the LCEF and the students of Wilbur McMahon.

In addition to elite runners from around New England who participate in the run, an increasing number of people are expected to walk the entire course to show their support for schools and participate in the day's events.  As this is a USATF sanctioned event, no strollers, baby joggers, motorized vehicles or dogs are allowed on the course.  The race will be chip timed this year by Racewire.

For younger children who wish to run but not run the full course, there will be a Kids Fun Run consisting of up to two laps to and from Pike's Peak, after the start of the Road Race. After the event, all are invited back to the Wilbur Gym for snacks, fruit and the medals ceremony.

To register online, visit www.lceducationfoundation.org and click on the live link for racewire.com. or print out the Race Application and waiver and mail to PO Box 1010 Little Compton, R.I. 02837. Registration is $23 online or by mail, $25 on race day. Checks are payable to LCEF.

Medals, designed by a local art studio and cash prizes will be awarded to the top three men and women. Additional prizes will be given to the top two winners in the following race categories:

• Junior (19 & under)

• Open (20-39)

• Master (40-49)

• Senior (50-59)

• Veteran (60-69)

• Heros (70-100)

The LCEF is a non-profit organization that was established in 2005 to enhance the educational experiences of the Little Compton public school students by fostering community support for Wilbur McMahon School.
