Barrington's Jim Anderson was recently inducted into the Rhode Island High School Football Coaches' Association Hall of Fame.

Mr. Anderson is a longtime assistant coach for the Barrington High School football team, and has been a contributor to football in Rhode Island for decades.

Mr. Anderson said he "very much appreciated" his recent induction into the Hall of Fame.

Mr. Anderson grew up in Barrington and was a standout for the Eagles on the football field. In 1982 he was named RI High School Coaches Association All-State and First Team All-Division at middle linebacker. That same year he was also selected as a National High School Coaches Association Honorable Mention All-American at middle linebacker.

Mr. Anderson graduated from Barrington High School in 1983 and attended a post-graduate year at The Hotchkiss School, where he was named New England Small Prep School League All-New England at middle linebacker.

After graduating from The Hotchkiss School, Mr. Anderson attended Brown University, where he played football. He was named All-Ivy League Left Guard in 1987 and was awarded the Frederick "Fritz" Pollard football team award and won the Providence Grid Iron Club MVP award for Brown University.

Mr. Anderson started his coaching career shortly after he graduated from Brown University — his first assignment was as a graduate assistant under Brown Coach John Rosenburg.

In 1990 he began coaching at Barrington High School as an assistant coach for fellow Hall of Fame coach Bill McCagney.

Mr. Anderson joined Coach Sandy Gorham's staff after Coach McCagney retired.

Mr. Anderson has not missed a Barrington High School football game in 29 consecutive seasons.

Mr. Anderson has served on numerous boards, including the Providence Grid Iron Club and the Brown University Football Association.

He is also a member of the Barrington High School Hall of Fame (2011) and Providence Grid Iron Club Hall of Fame (2013).
