Lori Ann Fisher, 55, passed away peacefully at the University of Maryland Medical Center on Saturday, August 11, 2018.

She was born on August 18, 1962 in Fall River to William Rushton and Rose (Moisan) Rushton. She was a graduate of Somerset High School. She worked as a CNA for many years, and had a passion for caring for the elderly. Lori had an uncanny ability for making people laugh, and she was a fierce protector of her family. She also loved animals, especially her two Pugs Dallas and Rocky.

Besides her parents, she is survived by her daughter, Melissa Mendes of Warren; her husband, Todd Fisher of Maryland; her stepmother, Lorraine Rushton of North Attleboro; her sisters, Dawn Givens of North Smithfield and Michele Ramos of Attleboro; her brothers, James Rushton of Dartmouth, Donald Rushton of California, Stephen Rushton of Pennsylvania, and Robert Ramos of Berkeley. She was the sister of the late Richard Rushton and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Her funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at Smith Funeral, Memorial and Cremation Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren, RI. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling hours are Saturday, Sept. 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. See www.wjsmithfh.com.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
