Luis P. Rego, 85, of Don Avenue of Rumford, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 21, 2018. He was the husband of the late Mary C. Rego. They were married for 59 years.

Born March 1, 1933, in Trandeiras, Portugal, he was the eldest son of the late Francisco Rego and Laurentina Pires. He emigrated to the United States in the late 1950s. The Regos were married in April of 1958. He was a devout member of the Catholic faith, a communicant at St. Margaret Church in Rumford and for years an usher there for Sunday morning 8 o'clock mass.

Mr. Rego spent the majority of his working career as a welder at the former Tower Iron Works in Attleboro. Having grown up on the family farm in northern Portugal, he had a life-long affinity for the land. He was an avid gardener and maintained a small landscaping company for some 25 years, remaining active into his early 80s.

Mr. Rego leaves two sons: Frank, and his wife Lisa of Rumford, and Michael, and his wife Michele, of East Providence; and three grandchildren: Chelsea, Adam and Joseph. He was also the brother of Francisco Rego, Serafim Rego and the late Henry Lourenco, Leonida Cruz, Odeila Correia, Arlindo P. Rego, Maria DeCarvalho and Felisbina Rego.

Arrangements are by Perry-McStay Funeral Home, 2555 Pawtucket Ave., East Providence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 26, at 10 a.m. in St. Margaret’s Church, Pawtucket Avenue, Rumford. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Calling hours are respectfully omitted.
