M. Jeannette Hamel, 91, Charlestown

M. Jeannette (Fortin) Hamel, 91, of Timber Ridge Road, Charlestown, died at home on Sunday, Oct. 25, 2015. She was the wife of the late Joseph Vincent Hamel.

Born in Warren, RI, a daughter of the late George Alcide Fortin and Maria Victoria (Fournier) Fortin, she attended Warren High School and was well-known as a Majorette in the Warren Indian Band before getting married and moving to Warwick. For the last 30 years she lived in Charlestown.

Mrs. Hamel leaves four daughters, Cheryll J. Kessler of Charlestown, Gayle Salamon of Warren, Joette V. Hamel of Hope Valley and Tammy C. Hamel-Taylor of Warwick; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.  She was the mother of the late Deborah L. Rose, and the sister of the late Donat Fortin and Edward Roland Fortin.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30 from the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Ave., Spring Green, Warwick, with a Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mary Church, 427 Carolina Back Road, Charlestown, RI. Relatives and friends are invited, and may visit at the funeral home on Friday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

Burial will be in the Rhode Island Veterans’ Cemetery in Exeter, RI.
