Mabel Warren Brochu, 91, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday May 20, 2017, at the Brentwood Nursing Home. She was a lifelong resident of Warren.

Mabel is reunited with her loving husband Raymond Brochu. Mabel was the daughter of the late David and Susie Fitting. Mabel was also the sister of the late Charles Fitting, David Fitting, Alfred Fitting, Blanche Thivierge, and Harriet Schofield. Mabel also leaves behind a sister, Norma Thivierge of Maine.

Mabel leaves behind three daughters, Kathleen Stidham of Nevada, Gail Luszcz  (her husband Joe) of Warwick, and Shirley Foy (her husband John) of Wisconsin. Mabel is also survived by five grandchildren, George Stidham, Jason Stidham, Whitney King,  Joseph M. Luszcz, and Michael P. Luszcz. Mabel was also the great-grandmother of Jacqueline Luszcz and Dallas King.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 25 at Smith Funeral Home and Memorial Services, 8 Schoolhouse Road, Warren. Her funeral will begin at Smith Funeral Home and Memorial Services at 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 26, with a Christian Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Jean Baptiste Church, 324 Main St., Warren, RI 02885. A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
