Malcolm Waterman MacDonald, MD, 74, of Middletown, died Friday, September 29, 2017, at Miriam Hospital in Providence. Dr. MacDonald was born March 28, 1943, in Rutland, Vt., the son of the late Dr. John Malcolm and the late Janet (Waterman) MacDonald. He was the husband of Candace (Cote) MacDonald for the last 51 years.

Dr. MacDonald served honorably in the US Army at the end of the Vietnam War.

He served the community through maintaining a medical practice for 42 years in Little Compton, associated with St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River. In his later years, he served as the medical director for Beacon Hospice Southern New England.

In his spare time, he enjoyed cooking for his family and friends, wine tasting, gardening and spending time with his family. He was an avid fan of the N.E. Patriots and Boston Red Sox, enjoyed watching the 6 p.m. news and loved playing Candy Crush.

Besides his wife Candace, he is survived by his three children, Jack MacDonald of Newport, Byron MacDonald of North Myrtle Beach, SC, and Lauren MacDonald Kennedy, Esq. of Kona, Hawaii. He also leaves his grandson, Neal Waterman MacDonald, son of Byron of North Myrtle Beach, SC; his brother, John B. MacDonald of Dayton, Ohio; and sister, Diana MacDonald Nero, of Leominster, Mass.

His funeral services are private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be made to a cancer charity of your choice.
