Warren police have arrested a man in connection with an assault Sunday night that left a Warren man injured and his dog missing.

Isaiah Rathbone, 36, of no address given, was arrested Thursday, Jan. 31 on charges of simple assault and disorderly conduct. Though bail was set Thursday at $6,000 with surety, Mr. Rathbone was held without bail as he is on probation for a simple assault charge dating to last June. He is due in court next on Feb. 14 for a violation hearing.

Warren police said Mr. Rathbone assaulted the victim, Warren resident Ray Alexandre, as he was walking his dog Eva in the park just before 10:30 p.m. Mr. Alexandre told police that Mr. Rathbone approached him and asked for a cigarette lighter before punching him twice in the face. Police said the victim fell to the ground and Mr. Rathbone came after him. As the two tussled on the ground, Mr. Rathbone allegedly bit the victim on the arm before getting up and running off. In the struggle, Mr. Alexandre’s dog, Eva, broke loose from its leash and ran away.

Following the assault, Mr. Alexandre said he is beside himself at the loss of Eva, a shih-tzu chihuahua mix he has had since she was a pup. If you see her, he asked that you call him at 252-1367.
