He got away with it once so Westport Police say a New Bedford man broke into the same gas station twice more in the next few days before his luck ran out.

Detective Antonio Cestodio said that Westport Gas, 634 American Legion Highway, was victim to three separate break-ins during a four-day span. Police responded to alarms there on March 23, 24, and 26, all between 9:30 p.m. and midnight ,to find broken windows and lottery tickets stolen.

Detective Ryan Nickelson led the investigation with Westport detectives and New Bedford detectives. Video surveillance and photos obtained from Westport Gas as well as other locations where stolen tickets were cashed helped police identified Daniel DaCruz Pedro, 39, of 61 Eugenia St., New Bedford. Det. Cestodio said that Mr. Pedro is well know to New Bedford Police and had an active arrest warrant for larceny over $250 out of New Bedford District Court. Investigators also learned that he was operating a stolen GMC pickup truck which was later recovered in New Bedford.

On Friday, April 1, Mr. Pedro was arrested at his home in New Bedford and, after being booked at the Westport Police Station, was transported to the Bristol County House of Corrections awaiting his arraignment on Monday, April 4, at Fall River District Court.

In addition to his prior larceny charge he now faces three counts of destruction of property over $250, three counts of larceny from a building, three counts of breaking and entering in the nighttime for a felony, and three felony counts of receiving stolen property (GMC truck).
