A 26-year-old man was killed Tuesday night when the car he was driving struck a tree at the intersection of Child Street and Long Lane in Warren.

Warren Police Lt. Roy Borges would not confirm the identity of the man Wednesday morning, as authorities still wanted to speak to family members. However, he said the victim was headed west on Child Street at approximately 11 p.m. when he struck a tree in front of 616 Child St. There were no other cars involved, Lt. Borges said.

The man was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
