Barrington man allegedly assaults his landlord

Posted

Barrington police received a call on Wednesday, July 26, from a motorist who had seen a man holding a lit road flare at a bus stop on Route 114.

Officers responded to the bus stop and located Gregg J. Trexler, 44, of 509 County Road, Apt. 3. He denied having held a lit flare, but officers found a burnt flare on the ground nearby and also found a number of new flares inside Mr. Trexler's backpack.

Mr. Trexler later admitted to lighting the flare; he said he used the flare to light a cigarette. Police did not charge Mr. Trexler for the road flare incident, but ran his ID and discovered there were two warrants out for his arrest. Officers then arrested Mr. Trexler on the two warrant from Superior Court. Mr. Trexler also gave officers a fake name when he was first approached.

Later in the day, police were called to Mr. Trexler's residence. Mr. Trexler's landlord told police he had been hit by Mr. Trexler.

Police then charged Mr. Trexler with domestic-simple assault, and domestic-disorderly conduct.
