Manuel Tavares, Bristol

Manuel, A. Tavares Sr., 83 passed away on January 18, 2016. at home after a long illness surrounded by his loving family.  He was the beloved husband of Olivia (Ramos) Tavares.

Born in Fenaiz da Luz, Sao Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late Maria and Alvaro Tavares.  He was the loving and caring father of Manuel Tavares Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Bristol, Filomena Sequeira and her husband Francisio of New Jersey and Susan Araujo and her husband John of Fall River. Cherished grandfather of Shelly Goudreau, Bethany Tavares, Michael, Jessica and Melissa Sequeira, Christina Jesus, and Stacy, Eric and Nikki Araujo.  He was also the great grandfather of 12.  Manuel was the brother of Venilde Cabral and Conceicão Mello.  He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and godchildren.

Manuel was employed by Pearson Yachts of Portsmouth for 26 years as a manager. He was a member of the St. Elizabeth’s Church Holy Ghost Committee.

His funeral services will be held Friday, January 22, 10 a.m. from the George Lima Funeral Home 367 High Street with a Mass of Christian Burial, 11 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church 577 Wood Street. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bristol.

Calling hours are Thursday 4 – 8 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to:  The American Heart Association  15 State Street  Providence RI  02908 or the Alzheimer’s Association of RI  245 Waterman Street  Suite 306  Providence RI  02906.
