Maria L. Sousa, 85, Westport

Maria L. (Andrade) Sousa, 85, of Westport, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2018, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Jose R. Sousa.

Mrs. Sousa was born in Faial, Azores, Portugal, daughter of the late Manuel and Maria A. (Correira) Andrade. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a seamstress for a textile company in New Bedford. She was a former member of and eucharistic minister at Mt. Carmel Church, New Bedford. She was a communicant of St. John the Baptist Church, Westport, and very active in church activities. Mrs. Sousa was very devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren.

Survivors include her son, Glenn J. Sousa and his wife Gelene of Westport; her two grandchildren, Megan Sousa and Aaron Sousa; along with several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Manuel Andrade.

Funeral, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be Monday, January 29, from the Potter Funeral Home, 81 Reed Road, Westport, at 9 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Baptist Church, Westport at 10 a.m.

Calling hours will be Sunday from 2-5 p.m.

Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery, New Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Town of Westport, c/o the Westport Council on Aging, Attn.: Social Day Program, 75 Reed Rd., Westport, MA 02790.
