Maria “Mary” Jose Carreiro, 86, of Bristol

Maria “Mary” Jose (Ferreira) Carreiro, 86, of Academy Avenue,  Bristol, passed away on Sept. 2, 2018. She was the wife of Arthur Duarte Carreiro.   

Born in Pico da Pedra, St. Michael, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Maria (Torres) Ferreira. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Lucie Kenyon, and her husband Steven; grandsons, Jeffrey Kenyon aand his wife Nicole, and Timothy Kenyon and his wife Colleen; and great-grandchildren, Mason Kenyon and Isla Kenyon.

Mrs. Carreiro was educated in Portugal and employed by Converse before retiring.

Her funeral services were held Sept, 6 from the George Lima Funeral Home, with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Rev. Marinaldo Batista at St. Elizabeth’s Church. Liturgical readings and the Prayer of the Faithful were by Nicole Kenyon and Colleen Kenyon. The offertory gifts were presented by Jeff Kenyon and Tim Kenyon. Burial followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Jeff Kenyon, Tim Kenyon, Artie Carreiro, Steven Carreiro, Al Carreiro and Duarte Carreiro.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
