Mary “Ann” Hall, 73, of Portsmouth, passed peacefully, on Dec. 28, 2016 at the Grand Islander Nursing Home in Middletown after a long illness.

She was born on Jan. 1, 1943 to the late Benjamin Franklin Crowell, Jr. and Eula Mae (Tenpenny) Crowell in Nashville, TN where she grew up and graduated from Central High School.

Ann was preceded in death by husband of 53 years, William James Hall, and sister-in-law Lorraine (Hall) Davol.

“Miss Ann” was an active member of the church of Christ in both Newport and East Providence where she taught Sunday school and Bible classes until her health no longer allowed her to do so.  Her hospitality and generosity were a hallmark of her loving character.

She was employed as a hairdresser for 25 years at Hair Design in Portsmouth.

Ann is survived by her son Gregory Hall (wife Robin Santurri) of Portsmouth and daughter Gina Hall (partner, Sean Ray) of Madison, WI; sisters, Betty Crowell and Gail (Crowell) Coleman of Nashville, TN; brother-in-law, Asa Davol of Tiverton; nephews Bruce (Christine) Davol of New Hampton, NH and Steve (Nancy) Davol of Tiverton; Michael (Wendy) Coleman of Huntingdon, TN; niece Cherie (Coleman) Hackney of Nashville, TN.

A memorial service will be held in May.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Visiting Nurses of Newport and Bristol Counties, 1184 East Main Road, Portsmouth, RI 02871; The Martin Luther King Center, 20 Dr. Marcus F. Wheatland Boulevard, Newport, RI 02840; or The Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Inc., P.O. Box 111180, Nashville, TN 37222-1180.
