Mary D. Puniello, 92, of Lantana, Fla., formerly of Bristol, died on Aug. 6, 2015.

She was born on Richmond Street in Bristol, the daughter of the late Carmine and Anna (Zampini) Puniello.

Mary was a second-grade teacher in the Bristol school system and walked to school every day in sun, rain or snow.  She retired in 1986 and moved to Delray Beach, Fla.

She graduated from Colt Memorial High School in 1941 and was the class Salutatorian. She later graduated from Rhode Island School of Education. She was an avid fan of Providence College basketball and had season tickets for many years. She was also involved in several civic activities, most notably the Fourth of July Committee.

She loved to travel. She visited most states in America, took many Caribbean cruises and visited every country in Europe. She also travelled to Africa, China, India, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Egypt and Israel, among others. She was evacuated from Havana, Cuba, with other travelers just before the U.S. Embargo in 1958.

She was a loving and generous aunt and took great pride in her nieces and nephews. When most of them graduated from high school, she took them on a trip to Europe as a graduation present, sometimes visiting family in Rome, Italy.

Mary is survived by her brother, Frank, of Bristol and sister-in-law Hortense (Tancy) of Bristol. She was predeceased by her brothers, Dominick (Philomena), Nicholas (Ann), John and Felix. She is also survived by one niece and seven nephews, Carmine Puniello, Anthony Puniello, John Puniello, Frances Ann Souza, Nicholas Puniello, Michael Puniello, Paul Puniello, Joseph Puniello and 18 grandnieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, Aug. 22, at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State St., Bristol, RI.

Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 141 State Street, Bristol, RI 02809.
