EAST PROVIDENCE — An elderly man died during a car accident on Saturday, Dec. 23, in Riverside.

The driver, a 78-year-old male and resident of East Providence, appeared to have suffered a medical episode prior to the crash.

East Providence Police Department officers responded to the area of the Riverside Branch Public Library on Bullocks Point Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle crash at approximately 1:50 p.m.

Once on scene, officers observed a Toyota Rav-4 with front-end damage. The driver was in serious condition. A female passenger in the front seat sustained minor injuries. Both were transported by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital where the male operator was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The EPPD Traffic Division and Accident Reconstruction Unit is investigating the crash. The operator’s name is being withheld until proper notifications are made to the deceased's nearest relations.
