The John Paul Medeiros Jr. Memorial Cup Hockey Games will be played on Wednesday night, Jan. 2, 2019 at Portsmouth Abbey. This year marks the 17th anniversary of the memorial games.

The girls' game will be played at 6 p.m. and will feature the East Bay Co-op Lady Eagles (the opponent has not yet been determined).

The boys' game starts at 7:30 p.m. and will feature Barrington against Mt. Hope.

Admission is a donation at the door — all proceeds will benefit the JP Medeiros, Jr. Scholarship Fund.

This is the only fund-raiser for the JP Medeiros, Jr. Memorial Scholarship for Eagles and Huskies hockey players — both boys and girls.

In the past 16 years, 69 student-athletes have received awards from the scholarship fund. Last year, Jonathan Fay, Dominic Robidoux, Drew Sirmalis, Grace Flaherty, Ryan Cordeiro, Kyrik Cordeiro and Carissa Rego received JP Medeiros Jr. Memorial Scholarships.

A graduate of Mt. Hope High School, JP Medeiros Jr. played, coached and loved hockey. He had been a member of the Huskies hockey team and was a team captain his senior year. JP was killed in a car accident in 2002.
