Mt. Hope, Sakonnet bridge projects announced by RITBA

The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) will be starting multiple bridge projects starting in April, including work on the Mt. Hope, Sakonnet River, Newport Pell and Jamestown Verrazzano bridges, as well as the Route 138 Connector. 

Beginning in April, there will be lane closures on the Mt. Hope Bridge from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and some nights for the following work:

• Continuation of steel repairs and painting on the south approach on the Portsmouth side

• Work on the bridge deck to include deck patching, safety walk concrete repairs and caulking, painting of inboard side of girders and suspender rope sockets

• Pressure washing of bridge members on and below deck

Starting in May, there will be lane closures from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Sakonnet River Bridge for the following work:

• Concrete repairs to bridge parapets

• Ongoing demolition of old Sakonnet River Bridge, a project by the Rhode Island Department of Transportation
