N. Darrell Harvey III, 88, Little Compton

N. Darrell Harvey III, 88, of Little Compton, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, in Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Maire (Garvey) Harvey.

Born in Fall River, a son of Norman D Harvey Jr. and Janice (Waring) Harvey, his early life was spent in Providence. He graduated from Salisbury School in Connecticut in 1947 and attended Brown University prior to enlisting in the US Air Force. Darrell served part of his tour of duty in London, England, where met his wife of 54 years. Maire and Darrell were married in 1956 in Pelham, NY, and moved to San Francisco, Calif., before returning to Watertown, Mass., where he worked for the Weyerhaeuser Company. He settled in Little Compton before retiring in 1989.

Darrell was a dedicated volunteer, serving for 20 years as a member of the vestry, and junior and senior warden at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Watertown, Mass., for 12 years on the Little Compton School Committee, as president of the Little Compton PG Club, and president of Little Compton Republican Committee. He was also a member of the Little Compton Recreation Committee, primarily responsible for rebuilding the town basketball courts and the original plan to rebuild the outdoor athletic facilities. Darrell also loved dogs, gardening, music, and family.

Darrell was a wonderful father who is survived by his three children, Sharon Harvey of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Janine Harvey of Charlestown, Mass., John Harvey of E. Greenwich, RI, and sister-in-law Lorraine Harvey of Brewster, Mass. He was the brother of the late William C. Harvey.

His memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 31, at 10 a.m. in the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 1956 Main Road, Tiverton. Burial private.
