Annual event raises more than $20K for Nayatt's PTO

The Nayatt 5K and 1-Mile Family Fun Run will be held on Saturday, April 6.

The event serves a key fund-raiser for Nayatt Elementary School PTO and draws a large crowd. In the past, race participants have been treated to a variety of weather conditions, ranging from clear skies and warm temperatures to freezing rain and snow showers.

Organizers would love to welcome nice weather on April 6: "Hoping Mother Nature will bestow a sunny, dry day," stated a recent press release.

The Nayatt 5K event raises more than $20,000 for the school's PTO, which provides important funds to help students reach their educational goals. Jaffe Orthodontics is again serving as the title sponsor for the Nayatt 5K.

Race-day registration opens at 7:15 a.m., and the family one-mile fun run steps off at 9 a.m. There will be 50-yard dash fun runs at 9:35, and the 5K begins at 10 a.m.

There will also be raffles and other post-race fun — the Self-Defense Training Center will provide a ninja warrior course, and weather-permitting, there will be a rock wall.

NBC 10 Chief Meteorologist Mark Searles will return as emcee for the event.
