New teachers welcome back students at BCA

Barrington Christian Academy starts the new school year

The faculty and staff at Barrington Christian Academy will begin the new school year on Wednesday, Aug. 30.

This year they will welcome new teachers and will also welcome back many teachers in new roles.

Andrew McCallister is the new science teacher for the middle school and will also be teaching 10th grade chemistry, while Carolann Ramos will be teaching Spanish to the lower school students, seventh grade, high school novice, and advanced classes. 

Joy Crichton will continue with BCA and will be teaching sixth grade math, Algebra 1, and middle school ELL, and Virginia Terrien is back as the seventh and eighth grade English teacher. Laura Jenkins will join the team as the new high school choir director along with teaching choir classes. 

Jessi Ekholm will be expanding her role from lunch coordinator to include high school Mixed Media classes, while Nathan Greenhalgh begins his new role as middle school principal. 

Also in a new role at BCA is Rob McBride, who will begin his role as dean of spiritual life along with teaching Bible/theology classes for the high school. 

Jenna Tremblay will be expanding her role as middle school music teacher and theater director for all school productions, and Jocob Corbett will be the program director for the after-school program, along with teaching physical education. 

Mrs. Cross will be teaching sixth grade geography, while Mr. Telford adds teaching lower school technology to his schedule.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
