EAST PROVIDENCE — Elements from outside the city were responsible for a shooting Friday, Aug. 10, in East Providence, according to local law enforcement officials.
Late Friday evening, EPPD Detective Lieutenant Raymond Blinn announced officers had arrested two adult males in connection with the incident that occurred earlier in the day near the intersection of Waterman Avenue and Green Street.
The event took place at approximately 3:40 p.m. when police received a call about a possible shooting near the location. Lt. Blinn reported upon arrival at the scene, officers found neither any victims nor suspects. Witnesses informed police prior to their arrival, an apparently injured man was put into a car and whisked from the scene.
After further investigation, a 28-year-old male, who was not a resident of East Providence, was located short time later at Rhode Island Hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.
In the interim, Lt. Blinn noted officers identified several persons of interest located at an apartment near the scene. They were then transported to the East Providence Police Department headquarters for further inquiry, eventually leading to the formal arrest of two suspects, 20 and 21-year-old males, who were found at the residence.
Lt. Blinn said no more details were being released at the time, because the incident was "a very active investigation with the possibility of additional arrests being made.”
