The osprey are back in Barrington.
After spending much of the cold weather months in warmer climates, the fishing birds have returned to this part of New England and have been spotted all over town.
Osprey nests can be found in and around Brickyard Pond, in Hundred Acre Cove, in Allin's Cove, in Rumstick and even atop one of the light poles at Barrington High School's Victory Field. The birds tend to nest near the coast, as their diets consist almost entirely of fish.
Last year, the Rhode Island Osprey Report showed that Barrington had one of the highest numbers of active osprey nests — 18 nests deemed successful or active — in Rhode Island.
