Patricia A. Grinnell 79, Tiverton

Patricia A. (Virdinlia) Grinnell 79, of Tiverton, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2017.  She was the wife of Donald E. Grinnelll to whom she was married to for 57 years. Born in Fall River, she was the daughter of the late Loretta (Fournier) and William Virdinlia. 

She was a 1956 graduate of Mount St. Mary High School. A registered nurse, she had a 50-year career in the hospital Industry, mostly at the former Union Hospital.  Later she ended her career in geriatric care.  She was a member of the Union Hospital Alumni Association. 

A communicant of St. Christopher's Parish, she was also a member of its Women's Guild.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Donna L. Croft, and a son Scott E. Grinnelll (wife Susan); and grandchildren, Benjamin D. Croft (Kayla Walker) and Jeremy E. Grinnell.  She also leaves a great grandson, Jaxson N. Croft, and a brother, Paul Virdinlia (wife Joan). 

Visitation Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m.  Her funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from the Pocasset Memorial Funeral Home, 462 Main Road, Tiverton, with an 11 a.m. Mass at St. Christopher's Church.  Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Tiverton.  www.almeida-pocasset.com for on line guestbook.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
