Pelletier announces for Ottiano Senate seat; primary looms

Tiverton Town Councilor Brett Pelletier became the second Democrat to declare his intention to run for Senate District 11 (Tiverton, Portsmouth, Bristol )Monday, meaning that a Dec, 31 primary all be required. A special election will be held on January 5, 2016 to fill the seat vacated by Senator Christopher Ottiano.

“This is an exciting opportunity to expand the scope of my commitment to public service and provide the residents of Tiverton, Bristol, and Portsmouth with passionate and diligent representation in the Senate,”Mr. Pelletier said.

Mr. Pelletier is a lifelong Tiverton resident and 2001 graduate of Tiverton High School.  He received his bachelor of science in finance from Bentley College, where he focused on finance and real estate.

He is employed as a senior real estate analyst with the Boston-based Kirk & Company: Real Estate Counselors, having joined the firm in 2005. Prior to joining Kirk & Company, he served as campaign intern with John Kerry for President and interned in the Boston office of the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy.

Councilor Pelletier was first elected to the Tiverton Town Council in 2010 and was re-elected in 2012 and 2014.  He is the council liaison to the following boards and commissions: Economic Development, Planning Board, Harbor & Coastal Waters Management, Historic Preservation Advisory Committee, Library Board, and the Tax Exemption Review Committee.  He serves as an ex-officio member of the Land Use Procedural Improvements Committee and the Seaside Gas Station Ad-hoc Committee.
