BRISTOL — Quarterback Matt DeFelice led the Huskies by rushing for two touchdowns and throwing for another as the football team won their first league game of the season over Mt. Pleasant, 26-20, in front of a frenzied home crowd at Vendituoli Field on Friday night.

With the Huskies down 8-0 in the second quarter, the Mt. Hope defense forced the Kilties to punt from mid-field. The snap flew over the punter’s head and was recovered by Jeff Silvia on the 19-yard line.

Runs by Dylan Martins and Jeff Silvia moved the ball down to the 3 yard-line. Matt DeFelice dove into the end zone on a keeper to get the Huskies on the board. A missed extra point made the score 8-6 at half time.

“Matt is getting better everyday. Dylan Martins did an unbelievable job. He’s running hard with good vision. He’s surpassing everyone’s expectations,” said coach Del Santo.

The Huskies came right back with another touchdown drive. DeFelice scored again on a 1-yard keeper. A Zach DaCosta kick made the score 19-12.

The Huskies scored again on a 1-yard run by Moskala. Another DaCosta kick made the score 26-12.

Mt. Pleasant came back again late in the fourth quarter to make the score 26-20, but it was too little too late.

“Our team showed resilience and perseverance. It was the first time that we behind all season and with the injuries, I wasn’t sure how we would respond. But they played great,” said coach Del Santo.
