Players prepare for Barrington Invitational Tournament

Warren nips Barrington in girls' U-12 game

Posted

Like many youth soccer programs throughout the state of Rhode Island, the Barrington Youth Soccer Association is high on the list of those activities well respected…on and off the field of competition.

Recently, the Barrington and Warren U-12 girls’ teams hooked up in a great defensive battle at the Barrington Middle School Field. When it was all over, Warren came out with a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

Barrington coach Jon Franklin did a great job getting his team ready for the once-beaten Warren squad. They played well throughout the contest and came up with some key stops. Despite the defeat, the local girls deserved a pat on the back for their play.

With youth soccer on the minds of a lot of folks these days, the Barrington Youth Soccer Association is getting ready for its highly-successful and competitive 37th annual Barrington Invitational Tournament, Nov. 4 and 5. Registration closes Oct. 10, and forms are available on-line at www.gotsport.com

"It's been a great season so far," said Coach Franklin. "They started with back-to-back wins before this game against Warren, which was their toughest test yet. They played hard right to the end and nearly tied it up in the final minutes. It's been fun to watch that in just a few weeks together they're having a blast and learning to work really well as a team.

"I'm most impressed by how quickly they've made adjustments in learning to play in positions that a lot of them were originally uncomfortable with. They constantly encourage each out there which has made for a great environment for them to try their skills in a game."
