Poetry Aloud: Poetry Month Celebration

Posted

Poetry lovers of all ages and experience, from writers to new readers, join us at the Seekonk Public for Poetry Aloud: National Poetry Month Event on Thursday, April 18 at 6 PM. In this inclusive poetry event the audience actively participates in the joy of language and expression. Together we’ll explore the works of Robert Browning, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Robert Burns and more in various ways including singing verses, repeating stanzas and rhyming couplets out loud. Presenter Joseph Scott teaches French at International House in Rhode Island, performs narrative poetry, and offers coaching in public speaking and in memorization techniques. This program is free and open to all. For planning and notifications, register in the Events Calendar at www.seekonkpl.org/events.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
