Police: Bike path construction to blame for injured bicyclist

Accident took place on path west of Sowams Road

Posted

A bicyclist was injured after an accident on the East Bay Bike Path in Barrington on Wednesday, May 2.

According to Barrington police, the bicyclist was traveling on the section of bike path west of the intersection with Sowams Road when he accidentally rode into a hole. Crews have been repaving sections of the East Bay Bike Path recently, digging out cracked and damaged pavement before filling the holes with new pavement.

Witnesses told police that the construction crew had failed to mark the dug-out sections of the path with traffic cones or signs.

First responders transported the injured bicyclist to a hospital.
