Police chief fills in as acting town manager in Barrington

Barrington Police Chief John LaCross picked up a new title this week: Town manager.

Well, it's actually "acting town manager."

The longtime police chief in Barrington is serving as acting town manager while Jim Cunha is out of the country. Chief LaCross said his additional duties began on Monday, Nov. 26 and will continue through Tuesday, Dec. 4.

Chief LaCross was called into service as town manager early on Monday morning, when he received a phone call from workers at the town hall. The employees told Chief LaCross that there was no heat in the building.

Chief LaCross drove from the Barrington Public Safety Building to the town hall to investigate the situation — a contractor who had been called in told officials that the boiler was not working properly, but he remedied the situation and the heat returned.

With that situation resolved, Chief LaCross traveled back to the police headquarters for his other duties.

Barrington has a few events taking place this week — there is a council meeting on Dec. 3 when the new council members will be sworn in; and the town hosts its annual Barrington Glows holiday festival on Saturday, Dec. 1.
