Police investigating possible exploitation of elderly man

Former neighbors concerned about Barrington man

Posted

A Riverside couple stopped into the Barrington Police station on Wednesday, April 10, to report a possible case of elderly exploitation.

The husband and wife said they had been neighbors with a Wampanoag Trail resident a few years ago and they believed someone had been taking advantage of him.

The husband and wife said a woman had approached the man, who is now 81 years old, about eight months ago and said she was a nurse and could help take care of him.

The Riverside residents told police they had noticed some suspicious activities, however — they said the woman had stopped giving the man his medication and he had suffered a fall. They said she also took away his wallet and cell phone and had added her name to his bank account information and transferred ownership of his truck to her.

The Riverside husband and wife said the alleged caregiver was not a nurse and had recently placed the Barrington man in an elderly facility. Police are investigating.
