Young boy dies from injuries after being struck by vehicle

Bristol Police announced that the juvenile struck by a vehicle Tuesday afternoon died from injuries sustained in the accident. He was crossing Poppasquash Road on the East Bay Bike Path on a bicycle at around 3:30 p.m., when he was struck by a 2007 Ford driven by a 21-year-old woman from Canton, Conn.

According to the police statement, the woman was driving west on Poppasquash Road from Hope Street when the accident occurred. The boy was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence, where he was later pronounced dead.

Poppasquash Road in Bristol and the East Bay Bike Path were closed in all directions as Bristol Police and Rhode Island State Police officers investigated the crash at the intersecction of the bike path and the state road.

Bristol Police are leading the investigation, and they called in the state police reconstruction team to investigate the scene.
